“Working with Andy and the Viking team was actually fantastic. We pay a lot of attention to detail, and that’s an important factor to us. Andy and the team really understood what our wants and needs were for this particular project, and they really followed through on everything. I only have great things to say about this experience!“—Mark Friedland, Senior Vice President of Construction, JASKO Development LLC
Reportedly the site of a Harry Houdini trick, the Andrews Building in downtown New Britain now has its own kind of magic.
An award-winning renovation has taken place thanks to the team at JASKO Development to restore this historic building. Designed in 1903 by prestigious architect William Cadwell, Avner Krohn, CEO of JASKO Development, has seen to a spectacular transformation of this landmark property on Main Street.
The yellow brick, limestone, and terra cotta building has five stories. The first floor and basement of the building will be leased as bar, coffee shop, and restaurant space, opening up the remaining floors for distinctive one-bedroom apartments and office space in this up and coming area close to Amtrak and Fastrack. The 500- to 700-square-foot units are being offered at a rate 20 to 30 percent lower in rent compared to similar units in the region.
This is just one example of JASKO Development’s vital commitment to New Britain, and just one of several local projects in their portfolio. According to Avner Krohn, CEO: “We hope to build on the work we have done and I believe we will see a more vibrant downtown with all of the continued adaptive reuse of historic buildings.”
New Britain’s Mayor, Erin Stewart is also impressed by Jasko’s commitment: “I applaud JASKO Development for their continued improvements in our downtown and their commitment to maintaining the historical integrity of our city’s remaining architectural gems.”
The units have high-end finishes with 1900s Prohibition-era decor, including hardwood floors, fireplaces, and high ceilings. The hardwood floors are all original, in keeping with historic renovation guidelines, and all painstakingly refinished.
We installed all the kitchens for the 20 apartments in 4 days. The cabinets by CNC are a deep Ocean Blue and add a crisp finish to the white walls and light quartz countertops. Adding a sparkle of color and elegance, the hardware is a gold finish that coordinates with the pendant lighting, faucets, and other accents throughout the apartments.
In the bedrooms, we installed FreedomRail storage systems by Organized Living. These flexible systems can be configured in many ways to maximize closet space. They are also fabricated with a special finish that doesn’t crack or discolor, meaning they’ll still look great in years to come.
Just like the whole fabulous building.
